Two United Nations employees abducted in DRC

Unidentified 'negative strengths' abducted UN onlookers alongside four DRC nationals in Kasai locale.

Two United Nations employees from peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have been abducted by obscure attackers in the focal Kasai district.

The administration of DRC said in a statement one of the casualties was Michael Sharp, an American, and the other Zaida Catalan, a Swede. The UN records Catalan as Chilean, be that as it may.

They had "fallen under the control of negative powers not yet distinguished" close to the town of Ngombe alongside four Congolese nationals, including three bike cab drivers and a mediator, it said.

Charles-Antoine Bambara, representative for the MONUSCO peacekeeping mission, said on Monday the two disappeared on Sunday.

Sharp and Catalan were among an UN board of specialists exploring clashes that have stewed in DRC since the mid-1990s, when a common war brought forth many equipped gatherings and attracted about six neighboring armed forces.
